Article in a prestigious journal

Another success of the coming to an end 'Science for Society, Society for Science at the Site of National Remembrance in Łambinowice' project, scored in April this year, is a scientific article entitled “Searching for the Missing Graves of PoWs from the Second World War-an Example of Research Conducted in the Area of Stalag VIII B (344) Lamsdorf.”

The text is featured in the ‘Journal of Field Archaeology’, a journal which has been published since 1974, initially by Boston University and now by Routledge, a well-known publishing house in the world of science. Publication in this renowned periodical is valued at 200 points.

The authors of the article - Dawid Kobiałka, Marek Michalski, Kamil Karski, Adam Lokś, Michał Pawleta, Violetta Rezler-Wasielewska, Piotr Wroniecki, Joanna Wysocka and Michał Czarnik - focused on presenting one of the prime objective of the project, which were the excavations works conducted in the area of the Old POW Cemetery in Łambinowice.

The excavations, aimed at identifying the sites of POW burials, brought success in the form of an archaeological discovery in the very middle of the necropolis. Now, it has become certain to us - earlier such suspicions were arising from documents, accounts and aerial photographs - that there is a quarter of the graves of World War II prisoners-of-war in this place. An initial excavation revealed the remains of two Italian prisoners, whose identities we were able to determine.
