Anniversary of the establishment of the Association of Friends of the CMJW

It has been almost two decades of joint activity! The Association of Friends of the Central Museum of Prisoners-of-War was established on 29 December 2004 as a public benefit organisation which the main objective was the substantive and financial support for the Museum in the conducting of its statutory activities.

The Statute of the Association stipulates that the association’s members, and these who join its ranks every year, are involved in the following activities: dissemination of the knowledge about the history of Opole Silesia, especially the history of the Lamsdorf/Łambinowice camps and the fate of prisoners-of-war during World War II; caring for the Site of National Remembrance in Łambinowice; supporting the Museum's activities in the fields of research, documentation, education, publishing and exhibitions, as well as promoting its activities.

In practice, the cooperation between the Museum and the Association is reflected in the organisation of many interesting undertakings, often including projects – also those subsidised through grants. The purpose of the grants is to popularise the subject of POWs in such a way that is attractive, especially to young audiences. The Association is also committed to the organisation of "Łambinowice Museum Meetings", a popular culture series addressed primarily to the local population, and to efforts of attracting sponsors willing to financially support our flagship competitions: the POW Poetry Recitation Contest "Let's not lose our memory" and the National Contest for the Historical Project "Before it's not too late".

A symbol emphasising the Association's connection with the Museum is the calendar published every year promoting the image of the institution and the Site of Remembrance, as well as reminding us of the possibility of making a donation to the Association of Friends of the CMJW, to which, on this occasion, we encourage you to do so – more details here: https://www.cmjw.pl/en/association/
