A ceremony to commemorate the 82nd anniversary of the transformation of the Union of Armed Struggle into the Home Army was held on 14 February at the monument to Home Army soldiers in Opole. Our Museum was represented by the head of the Research Department, Dr. Piotr Stanek.

The provincial anniversary commemorations commenced with a holy mass for the intention of soldiers and members of the Home Army, after which the participants moved to the square in front of the monument, where the national anthem was sung, flowers were laid and candles were lit. There were made commemorative speeches as well as was read a roll call of remembrance. We were most pleased by the presence of the always socially active, tireless Helena Kamerska - a Home Army soldier and participant in the Warsaw Uprising.

It is worth mentioning that this group of veterans is very important for the Museum - not only when they attend the annual ceremonies commemorating the arrival of the first transport of Warsaw insurgents at Stalag 344 Lamsdorf hold at the Site of National Remembrance in Łambinowice. Their history is also the subject of the Museum's exhibitions and publications.
