About Witold Pilecki – report
The protagonist of our latest episode of "Łambinowice Museum Meetings" was Witold Pilecki. His biography was presented by Dr. Piort Stanek, head of the Research Department and the author of another book series Prisoners-of-War 1939-1945. Facts, Documents, Persons, dedicated to the Rittmeister.
At the meeting was presented one of the latest Museum' publications Witold Pilecki. Prisoner-of-War No. 101892. This book is unique in that, unlike other works, it deepens the episodes related to the Rittmeister's captivity - in Stalag 344 Lamsdorf and Oflag VII A Murnau. Not surprisingly, therefore, the speaker placed emphasis on these issues in his presentation.
There were also many interesting facts from the Rittmeister's early youth and his non-military activities and passions – for example, his development, in a pioneering way, agriculture. All of this information added up to a person of a flesh-and-blood man, and also invoked a lively discussion at the end of the meeting.
The event was an opportunity to purchase the presented publication, have an unofficial talk with the author, and get his autograph.
