78the anniversary of uprising in the Warsaw Ghetto

Today, 19 April, is marked 78 years since the outbreak of the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising. The symbolic point of the end of fights is considered to be the demolition of the Great Synagogue, on 16 May, 1943.

Yellow paper daffodils, which – thanks to the afford of the Polin Museum – since 2013 have become a symbol of remembrance, are today visible – due to the pandemic – mainly in virtual space. Therefore, The Daffodils campaign can be joined by anyone, from anywhere in the world, by pinning a virtual flower, watching a video walk, listening to a debate or a concert via social media (https://polin.pl/pl/akcja-zonkile-2021-program-obchodow).

We also join the campaign by, among other things, adding a special commemorative overlay to the museum's Facebook profile picture. Today, we would like to remind that among the Polish Army prisoners-of-war were also soldiers of Jewish origin. The privates and non-commissioned officers were released from captivity, and returned home, from where, now together with their families, were taken to ghettos.
