75th anniversary of the liberation of Stalag VI C Oberlangen

On 12th of April, passed 75 years since of the liberation of Stalag VI C Oberlangen. This fact is worth to mention due to many reasons. Firstly, in the spring 1945 it was the biggest place of isolation for the woman who were soldiers (private and NCO ranks) of the Home Army and who became a POW after the fall of the Warsaw Uprising. Some of them, like Wanda Traczyk-Stawska which memories from the moment of liberation we published on our Facebook site, also passed through Stalag 344 Lamsdorf (Łambinowice)

The Oberlangen camp was liberated by a patrol made up of soldiers of the 2nd Armored Regiment of the 1st Armored Division of General Stanisław Maczek, commanded by Lt. Col. Stanisław Koszutski.

Over 1700 female POWs regained their freedom – and to their immense surprise and happiness – thanks to the Polish soldiers.

Those and other facts regarding the fate of female soldiers of the Home Army, are describe by Dr Malogorzata Klasicka in her book Warsaw female insurgents in German captivity (1944-1945) published by the Museum.
