,,Become a Soldier of the Republic of Poland” – is the motto of this year’s Feast of the Polish Armed Forces

Today we mark exactly 101 years since the victorious for Poland Battle of Vistula, which was fought from August 12–25, 1920. The victory ensured the survival of the Second Polish Republic and halted plans of spreading the Bolshevik revolution to countries of Western Europe.

Traditionally, the main anniversary commemorations will take place on 15 August in Warsaw, near the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. In the Opole Province, the celebrations began on 13 August with ceremonies held in the barracks of the 10th Opole Logistics Brigade. In turn, on 14 and 15 August military picnics were planned in Kluczbork and Brzeg. On Sunday (15 August), however, the Volunteer Cavalry Squadron of the Opole Land will march through the streets of Opole in uniforms and equipment from the interwar period.

On this occasion, we would also remind about the latest temporary exhibition presented by the CMJW. The exposition Żołnierze Legionów i Polskiej Organizacji Wojskowej w służbie Polskiego Państwa Podziemnego i Armii Krajowej [Soldiers of the Polish Legions and the Polish Military Organization in the service of the Polish Underground State and the Home Army], prepared by the Home Army Museum in Kraków, presents profiles of Polish soldiers who, in the years of the Second World War, were engaged in the independent movement and involved in underground activity. The exhibition can be viewed in two places in Opole – in Jan Paweł II’s Square (the first part), and in the courtyard of the Central Museum of Prisoners-of-War at 3 Minorytów Street (the second part).

On the occasion of their Day, we would like to wish all soldiers, in active service and retied, health, professional satisfaction and every good fortune.
