Poster Against War International exhibition of graphic designs with an anti-war theme

The exhibition is a visual protest by artists from around the world against the Russian aggression against Ukraine. As the authors of the catalogue accompanying the exhibition write: 'The poster, with its laconic and incisive message, immediately reflects changes in society. On 24 February 2022 there was such a change, but from the presented works on display we can read a much broader anti-war context that goes beyond the ongoing conflict behind our eastern border. For using the language of art and the power of artistic expression, that change provides a memorable commentary on current events and a support for the fighting Ukrainians. It is also a protest and a warning against the consequences of war, imperialism and human rights abuses.

Each poster is an individual statement by it author, and the variety of compositional solutions and means of expression confirm the originality of each work. The artists used modern techniques and forms, creating often minimalist, colour-saving works, taking care of the dynamics of the form and interesting image framing. They also include combinations of photomontages with captions or freehand satirical drawings.

The project of this international exhibition was planned by the Eugeniusz Geppert Academy of Fine Arts in Wrocław, and its curators are Prof. Olha Lukovska, Director of the Lviv Palace of Arts, and Prof. Wojciech Pukocz, Rector of the Academy of Fine Arts in Wrocław.

The exhibition will be shown at the Museum’s Opole seat from 7 to 29 February 2024.
