We took part in the celebrations of the National Independence Day
On 11 November, on the occasion of the National Independence Day, precisely on the 107th anniversary of regaining independence by Poland, all over the country there were organized a great number of commemorating events. Workers of our Museum participated in the celebrations held in Opole as well as in Łambinowice and its environs.
The celebration was opened with an official ceremony in Opole, which was held under the auspices of Monika Jurek, Voivode of Opole Province, Szymon Ogłaza, Marshall of Opole Voivodeship and Arkadiusz Wiśniewski, President of the City of Opole. Like every year, it took place in front of the Monument to the Fighters for the Polishness of Opole Silesia. The Museum was represented by Deputy Director, Dr Renata Kobylarz-Buła, who participated also in the evening concert in Opole Philharmonic Hall, where the Association of Katyń Family in Opole honoured her with a commemorative medal established on the 85th anniversary of the Katyń Massacre.
It is a tradition now to honour the memory of POWs of World War I during the National Independence Day celebrations. Consequently, on 11 November, the Old POW Cemetery in Łambinowice is visited by Honorary Consul of Serbia, Ranko Tomović. Today, he lay flowers at the Monument of Serbian POWs and was accompanied by Elżbieta Góra, Head of the Conservation and Collections Department.
Dr Anna Wickiewicz, Head of the Department of Education and Exhibitions, in turn, represented our Museum at the evening meeting organized by Public Primary School in Włodary (Commune of Korfantów). It is worth adding in this place that a similar ceremony had been held earlier, on 7 November, at the Public Primary School in Łambinowice. Then, it was attended by Dr Michał Jakubik of the Department of Education and Exhibitions.
