Two meetings devoted to one place

On Monday and Tuesday, 28 and 29 July, in Łambinowice, there were held two important meetings: a session of the Board in charge of Care of the Site of National Remembrance in Łambinowice and a seminar of Conservators. Both were devoted to preservation of the former camps remnants and war cemeteries, and keeping them up in the best state.

A yearly session of the Board is a significant event on the agenda of the Museum. The Board – let us remind – is formed by the owners of the Site of National Remembrance in Łambinowice as well as representatives of institutions, offices and organizations which are responsible for maintenance of  sites of remembrance in Poland at different levels. Thus, this is a forum that makes it possible to analyze the current situation of the Site of National Remembrance under our supervision, regarding its conservation, consult the needs and elaborate on a plan of works as well as assess capabilities of carrying them out. The Board has been active for over a decade now, greatly contributing to protection, conservation and revitalization of the Site in Łambinowice.

On the other hand, the seminar of Conservators was attended by experts of the State Auschwitz-Birkenau Museum, led by Deputy Director Rafał Pióro, and representatives of two conservation companies which have been cooperating with our Museum for years: Krzysztof Ałykow and Bogusław Kaczyński of the Ałykow Team of Engineers, and Mariusz Zając representing Zajmart. The attention of the Conservators was focused on the relics of Stalag 318/VIII F (344) Lamsdorf, which had been subjected to thorough conservation works in 2020. The effects of the works were now evaluated with the aim to verify the conservators’ suggestions and establish the best course of further conservation activity.

We want to give our sincere thanks to the participants of both meetings!
