This year’s Night of Culture was held on 26 June and attracted a good number of visitors to our Museum, who – for a few hours – were taking part in activities prepared by our colleagues, which were connected with photography, history and films.

One of the highlights was a photography quiz related to the exhibition “All inclusive. The Odyssey of Lieutenant Andres 1939–1947”. The participants were to carefully analyse the archival photographs on display, look for hidden details and test their skill of observation. The best were awarded prizes from our Museum gift shop.

Throughout the evening, under a keen eye of our colleague Marcin Żwirełła, a workshop in cyanotype (blueprint) was run. The participants were acquainted with one of the oldest photographic printing processes, prepared their own compositions and made unique prints by themselves. The created works showed that the historical technique can still be a source of creative experiments and inspirations.

After dark, the activity moved into the Museum yard, where we presented the archival movie Dzieci [Children] (dir. Michał Waszyński) and the recording of the exclusive interview with Stanisław Andres – the hero of the temporary exhibition. The evening show turned out a perfect culmination of the day filled with attractions. It also offered an opportunity to look at history from the perspective of witnesses of past events.

The Night of Culture again proved that our Museum is not only a place to learn about the past, but also one of active participation in culture. We want to thank all who decided to spend that evening with us.
