The Museum in the celebration of the anniversary of the crime committed against Capt. “Bartek’s” soldiers
In the Death Glades in Stary Grodków and in the vicinity of Malerzowice Wielkie, on 12 September, there were held celebrations commemorating the 80th anniversary of the “Lawina” [Avalanche] Crime. In 1946, functionaries of the Office of Security, deceitfully transported soldiers commanded by Capt. Henryk Flame, nom de guerre “Bartek”, to Silesia, where they were murdered. The whole action was part of the operation aimed at the Group of National Armed Forces.
The celebration opened with a field mass in Stary Grodków, followed by the Remembrance Appeal, Gun Salute and laying of wreaths under the Partisans’ Cross. The celebration was attended by representatives of the main organizer – the Institute National Remembrance, and also those of the local government, army and social organizations as well as families of murdered soldiers, including the daughter of Capt. Henryk Flame “Bartek” – Alicja Reinhard-Flame. Among the participants who came to Grodków were also residents of Kamesznica and its environs, where many soldiers of the “Bartek’s” Group came from. Our Museum was represented by Dr Anna Wickiewicz.
During the ceremony, the history of “Avalanche” Crime was recalled and the search of the murdered soldiers’ remains carried out by the Institute of National Remembrance was mentioned. Part of them were found a few years ago just in Stary Grodków and in the vicinity of Malerzowice Wielkie. The search is still being continued.
