The latest effects of the cooperation between the Museum and “Rewars” Studio
This time, the “Rewars” Conservation Studio, beside carrying out regular conservation of museum items also made replicas of selected artefacts.
Replicas are made when, for instance, the conditions of displaying the originals are not optimal or may put the artefacts on display at risk of being destroyed. For this reason, our Museum decided to have copies of a few exhibits made. They are meant to replace part of the items of monuments at the permanent exhibition entitled “The Site of National Remembrance in Łambinowice – the regional, national, European heritage” installed at the Opole seat of our Museum. The replicas of the artefacts include the following: a wooden lampshade made by a Soviet POW in Stalag 318/VIII F (344) Lamsdorf, a board game “The Crown and the Anchor” belonging to British POW Isaac C. Kirkwood, wooden chess figures sculped by Zbigniew Górski, a Polish POW at Lamsdorf, Warsaw Insurgent, as well as the so-called bracelet of Zofia Arcimowicz, also a participant of the Warsaw Rising and a POW at Lamsdorf, at whose request a Soviet POW shaped her dog tag into this form.
Each of these objects was made with great care and paying attention to details. They were also properly “aged” so that they look almost identical with their originals. Obviously, the professional ethics requires museologists to admit the fact so that none of the visitors should be kept convinced that in the case of copies they are dealing with genuine items. Visitors will have a chance to experience this by themselves, since the replicas will replace the original artefacts.
We invite all to visit the exhibition!
