“The essence of things” – we extend our invitation to a temporary exhibition
We want to remind our visitors that it is possible to visit the exhibition called “The essence of things” at our Łambinowice seat of the Museum.
It is an exceptional display that tells unusual histories of POWs and members of their families through the fates of – at first sight – common things which used to belong to them. Among the presented objects there are photographs showing the life of British POWs at Stalag VIII B Lamsdorf, correspondence of Polish POWs (including letters to their mothers), exceptional jewellery belonging to women-participants of the Warsaw Rising, detained in German captivity, sketches by Georgij I. Danilov presenting his companions in captivity, and also sculptures, drawings, paintings, diaries and personal belongings – mementos made by Polish officers, such as caskets, volumes of poetry or an album prepared for a daughter. An important part of the exhibition are artefacts excavated during the archaeological research and works conducted on the grounds of the former Stalag 318/VIII F (344) Lamsdorf and the Old POW Cemetery in Łambinowice, among them particular attention is drawn by Italian soldiers’ dog tags of the years 1943–1945.
A vital element to complement the exhibition are films of the documentary miniatures cycle under the title “…yet this is a different story” – both the ones published earlier and those newly-produced. They offer a most interesting dramatized presentation of “The essence of things”.
We kindly invite everybody to pay a visit!
