September ”Łambinowice Museum Meeting” – an account

On 10 September, the cyclical “Łambinowice Museum Meeting” was held as part of this year’s European Heritage Days. It was organized under the title “Towards architecture. The young heritage” and was devoted to the role of architects in the spectacular metamorphosis which the seat of our Museum in Łambinowice went through within recent years.

The guests of the meeting, Małgorzata and Andrzej Zatwarnicki, were welcomed by Director of the Museum, Dr Violetta Rezler-Wasielewska, who – on this occasion – took the opportunity to refer to the long history of cooperation between our institution and the designers of the distinguished architecture studio “Architop”. The Zatwarnickis have run it for almost 30 years, boasting of great successes in shaping the space of Opole and the region.

The task of rebuilding such an architectonic object as a museum is was – as the architects admitted themselves – very ambitious but, at the same time, interesting and ennobling a challenge. Creation of a comfortable and representative entrance zone was considered to be of special importance so it was decided that beside the typical infrastructure (a cloakroom and a sanitary facility) it should  also include a conference hall that is so needed considering our scientific and educational activities.

During the meeting, the architects responsible for the design clarified the whole process of reaching the final version, which surely helped the participants to understand it better and also eliminate certain doubts. In the discussion, a number of questions were asked, among others one that may have bothered part of the inhabitants of Łambinowice, that is if due to the historical character of the building of the former shooting range headquarters the architects could take into consideration other solutions concerning the design. This question was fully explained. Moreover, it proved to be a very good idea to take a walk around the inside of the main building of the Museum and the former guardhouse, where a bistro is planned to be opened in the future.
