At the Opole seat of our Museum, on 2 September, a press conference was held dedicated to summing this year’s stage of works which focused on the identification of burial places of Polish soldiers – prisoners of war interned in Lamsdorf. For the representatives of regional media, who attended the meeting, it provided an opportunity to comprehensively get acquainted with this research enterprise that is significant also for the whole region.

The conference was opened by Director of the Museum, Dr Violetta Rezler-Wasielewska, who briefed the gathered journalists on the subject-matter of the meeting. Then, representatives of the regional authorities took the floor: Zbigniew Kubalańca, Vice-marshal of Opole Voivodeship and Agnieszka Kamińska, Director of the Department of Culture and Regional Heritage of the Municipal Office of Opole City. Both speakers underlined the significance of the conducted works for the historical heritage of the region and expressed their hopes for continuation of them. Next, the head of the research team, Dr Dawid Kobiałka, discussed the course and effects of the research which lasted from 14 to 24 July 2026. The archaeologist presented the road to the breakthrough discovery beginning with verification of the archival search to date, including a thorough analysis of aerial photographs from the period of World War 2, which allowed selecting concrete places for commencing the excavation works. The project was the second stage of this year’s works and was financed by the Local Government of Opole Voivodeship at the amount of 110 thousand PLN. 

The conference ended with the journalists’ questions, mainly concerning continuation of the works and individual talks and interviews.
