The last week was truly busy, especially for our research team, members of which delivered three papers at two events.

On Wednesday, 8 October, Dr Piotr Stanek, Head of Scientific Department, gave a speech during the Silesian Book Fair “Kakauszale”. His paper under the title “In the outskirts. Lamsdorf in the days of the Silesian Uprisings and the Plebiscite” raised a great deal of interest on the part of the participants . The event was also attended by other members of the Museum personnel, who organized a sale of our publications and informed the participants of the activity of our institution.

Then, Dr Renata Kobylarz-Buła, Deputy Director of our Museum, together with Maria Bula, a member of the Scientific Department, took part in the international conference entitled “The year 1945 in Opole Silesia”. The event was organized with the aim to analyse the end of World War 2, with the ensuing changes on the political and economic stages, as well as changes of the borderlines that followed. Both papers delivered by the representatives of our Museum wrote into the issues raised at the conference. In her paper “Between history, politics and memory. The year 1945 in accounts of the detained in postwar labour camps (the case of Łambinowice)”, which was delivered on Thursday, Dr R. Kobylarz-Buła presented accounts, memoirs and statements of witnesses of those events, whose memory of the year 1945 in Silesia was shaped primarily through their experiences of isolation in the postwar camp in Łambinowice. Next, on the following day, Maria Bula delivered her paper entitled “Files on the case of Lamsdorf. Postwar settlements of the personnel of German POW camps run by the Wehrmacht”. The presentation dealt with attempts made at judging the personnel of the POW Wehrmacht camps already after the war, with particular paying attention to stalags of Lamsdorf, in the light of, among others, trials documentation. Both papers were received with due attention and interest.
