Preparations in progress for the II Congress of Polish Museologists

This is official now: in May 2027 Kielce will be the venue of one of the most important events for the sector of culture in Poland. The II Congress of Polish Museologists is an initiative that has grown out of the need for dialogue, and its supreme goal is a real change.

We want to jointly work out a proposition of a new act on museums, which – after over 30 years – will replace the current regulations, adjusting them to contemporary challenges and the reality of work. The substantive shape of the Congress is the responsibility of its Presidium composed of leading experts and practicians. The works are headed by Dr Michał Niezabitowski (President of the Association of Polish Museologists, Director of Krakow Museum), supported by Vice-Presidents: Prof. dr hab. Robert Kotowski (President of ICOM Polska, Director of the National Museum in Kielce) and Aldona Modrzewska, MA (President of PSIM). The efficient running of the preparations is the responsibility of Dr Łukasz Wojtczak, Secretary of the Congress,.

The Congress will provide a space for an open discussion on what is vital to us, museologists: protection of heritage, safety of collections, modern management and decent conditions of everyday work. It is an enterprise that is created by the whole environment of professionals: the Program Committee includes representatives of the most important branch associations, among others, Director of CMJW, Dr Violetta Rezler-Wasielewska as Vice-President of the Association of Polish Museologists.
