Our Museum takes part in the celebrations at the Depot History Centre and the Zamojskie Museum
Two jubilees and two meetings with museums that tell about the histories of their cities and inhabitants. On recent days, representatives of the Central Museum of Prisoners of War participated in the celebrations of the 10th anniversary of the Depot History Centre in Wrocław and the 100th anniversary of the Zamojskie Museum.
On 16 September in Wrocław, there was held a jubilee gala of the Depot History Centre. The celebration was attended by Dr Renata Kobylarz-Buła, Deputy Director of CMJW. During the meeting, the history and activity of the Centre were recalled, including its flagship projects – Archive of Oral History and mobile exhibitions prepared, among others, within the framework of Network of Western and Northern Lands. An important element of the jubilee was also the exhibition under the title “Microhistories of Wrocław residents”, prepared on the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the Centre and consisting of mementos supplied by inhabitants of the city. Among them there are Second Lieutenant Ryszard Wierzbicki’s letter to his wife. He was a prisoner of war at Kozelsk, murdered at Katyń, and a court document of 1946 which confirms his death, however, giving a false date. The exhibition presents also the dog tail of Major Aleksander Niżyński – a participant of the Polish-Bolshevik War, the September Campaign of 1939 and the Warsaw Rising, who – following the capitulation – was detained in Stalag 344 Lamsdorf. After the war he was one of the first residents of Polish Wrocław and laid the foundation of the city’s administration.
On 18 September, the Zamojskie Museum celebrated its 100th anniversary. The celebration was attended by Dr Violetta Rezler-Wasilewska, Director of CMJW. A hundred years of activity makes the history of this institution which for successive decades has gathered and protected items testifying to the past of Zamość and the region. Part of the jubilee was a scientific conference under the title “The Museum in a UNESCO city – heritage, education, innovations”, devoted to, among others, modern role of museums, protection of heritage and ways of its presentation. An important point in the celebration was also the exhibition entitled “Written in time”, prepared on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the Museum and presenting objects from the most important units of its collections.
