Our Museum at the XVIth Memory Forum

The Memory Forum is a seminar of Polish Martyrdom Museums, co-organized every year by the Stutthof Museum in Sztutowo and the Auschwitz-Birkenau State Museum with the aim to exchange knowledge, experience and ideas concerning the modes of working of these institutions.

This year’s meeting was held between 4 and 5 September in Kąty Rybackie.

Our Museum was represented by the Director, Dr Violetta Rezler-Wasielewska, who – together with Dr Anna Czerner – had prepared a presentation about the last year’s project awarded with the Sybilla Prize (Poland’s national museum award). The project is entitled “Echoes of 1944. From Warsaw to Lamsdorf: one project, eleven challenges”. Apart from them, Dr Dawid Kobiałka delivered his paper under the title “Sixty men from Lamsdorf – archaeology of memory” devoted to the circumstances of the discovery and exhumation of the remains of Italian soldiers interned at Stalag 344 Lamsdorf during World War 2.

Like every year, the Forum, which was attended by representatives of 20 museums and organizations, provided an opportunity to hold many lively discussions about goals and methods of work at sites of remembrance, difficulties and ways of coping with them, and also about successful enterprises that can offer a valuable source of inspiration to others.

We thank the Organizers for their invitation to take part.
