On the future of Polish museology at a conference held in Kielce – an account
Between 15 and 16 June the National Museum in Kielce hosted a joint session of the Council for Museums and Memorial Sites and the Program Committee of the 2nd Congress of Polish Female and Male Museologists. The meeting was devoted to the organization of this event planned for 5–7 May 2027, as it is of utmost importance to the whole museologists’ environment. The Congress will be devoted to challenges which contemporary museology is facing.
The session was attended by Director of our Museum, Dr Violetta Rezler-Wasielewska, a member of the Council for Museums and Memorial Sites as well as of the Program Committee of the 2nd Congress of Polish Museologists.
The two-day meeting dealt with the most significant issues related to the present state and the future of Polish museums. The participants debated over the program assumptions and organizational matters concerning the Congress.
The talks held in Kielce proved that the museum is not merely a place to store artefacts and documents. It makes a space of responsibility for memory and discussion on what and how we want to preserve for future generations. Therefore, it is vitally important for the museologists’ environment to meet and exchange the experience of their institutions so that concrete conclusions on the role of museums in the fast changing world could be drawn.
