Museum employees at the 'Zielone Upamiętnienie' conference

From 6 to 8 November, there was hold the conference 'Green Commemoration. Challenges of a difficult heritage' in Cracow. Our Museum was represented by Director Dr. Violetta Rezler-Wasielewska and Dr. Anna Czerner from the Research Department.

The organisers set oneself the objective to create an open space that would facilitate a dialogue between representatives of various groups engaged in remembrance practices concerning difficult heritage, especially those in the green space. The floor therefore was given to organisations, experts, activists and representatives of various initiatives to concerning memory and care for heritage, including Jewish one. The discussions took place in four thematic panels: memory, museum, halachic and architectural. Dr. Violetta Rezler-Wasielewska was invited to the museum panel, wherein there was an opportunity to present our Museum and the Site of National Memorial in Łambinowice, while Dr. Ann Czerner participated in the Round Table discussions: "Difficult heritage, dialogue, KL Plaszow" - with experts from the fields of museology, architecture, Jewish law and civic participation.

The discussions were accompanied by: a meeting with Katarzyna Surmiak-Domańska, journalist and reporter, author of 'Czystka' nominated for this year's Angelus Central European Literature Prize, and interdisciplinary workshops and a visit to the site of the former KL Plaszow camp.

The conference was organised by the FestivALT Association and the Centre for the Study of Memory Cultures at Jagiellonian University in association with the Plaszow KL Museum, the Galicia Jewish Museum, the Krakow branch of the Association of Polish Architects, the Forms Common, Forgotten and Urban Memory foundations, the NeDiPa project and the Institute of Intercultural Studies at the Jagiellonian University.
