Invitation to the first “Łambinowice Museum Meeting" after the holidays

The nearest “Łambinowice Museum Meeting" will be held on 9 September, thus exceptionally on the second Wednesday of the month. The reason for this shift is that we wrote this event into the program of this year’s European Heritage Days 2026, organized under the telling title “The Future of the Past. Heritage in danger”.

Concrete and brick are materials which were used to construct the infrastructure of the prisoner of war camps in Lamsdorf. Today, their remains are among the most important visible evidence of the difficult history of the place. However, the natural processes and man’s activity have caused this material heritage to be in need of organized care, research and long-term solutions.

It is this challenge that the nearest meeting will be devoted to, during which Zofia Szlęg, conservator of monuments in our Museum, will be telling about protection of the relics of Stalag 318/VIII F (344). She will discuss typical threats to the historical substance and will explain in what way some seemingly harmless factors — water, sunrays, plants, fungi or microscopic bacteria — lead to gradual deterioration of bricks, plaster and concrete.

The whole of the presentation will as usual be rounded off with a discussion with the participants, during which questions can be asked about challenges connected with the protection of the Site of Remembrance.

We kindly invite everybody to join us for the meeting!
