Inquiry in Berlin archives
The Museum continues to collect copies of archival materials documenting the activity of prisoner-of-war camps run by the Wehrmacht. Between 20 and 24 October, an enquiry was being conducted in Berlin’s archives.
Our colleagues, Maria Bula of the Scientific Department and Iwona Cichoń-Halot of the Archive, left for the capital of Germany to conduct a five-day inquiry. The work had been planned carefully, since the query was designed to cover a broad range of documents remaining in the following archives: Landesarchiv Berlin, Bundesarchiv Tegel, Deutsches Historisches Museum and Staatsbibliothek Berlin.
The intensive exploration of the archives was fruitful, yielding very good results, among others, obtaining copies of a great number of relevant documents, photographs and information related to the issue of POWs during World War II, including materials to complement the knowledge on the Italian soldiers buried in the Old POW Cemetery in Łambinowice during the war.
The copies will be catalogued in our Archive, added to a special collection, where they will be accessible to members of our Museum’s personnel, and will serve to carry out further research into the fates of POWs in the Wehrmacht camps.
