Cooperation with the Helios network in January
Among the partners in the educational activity of our Museum there is Poland’s largest network of cinemas. In Opole, the Helios company runs two cinemas: one in ‘Solaris’ Shopping Centre situated nearby and one located in the outskirts of the city, within the popular commercial complex ‘Karolinka’.
Beginning with 12 January our cooperation has included providing talks preceding film shows of Nurenberg. They are addressed to students of secondary schools, being part of the cycle “The cinema on the topic” - a special educational programme which, as intended by the organizers, is meant to “…broaden horizons, discover or deepen passions, yet also confront us with problems that are significant to young people.” Independent of the current theme, the formula of meetings with the young remains the same: a lecture or a talk given to the invited viewers and then presentation of the film itself.
In the case of Nurenberg, due to the length of the film (170 minutes) and the demanding plot, the talk ought to be relatively short, lasting 20 minutes. It acquaints the listeners with the most relevant facts connected with the history of the title city as a place that saw the development of the Nazi ideology (conventions of the NSDAP, the Nurenberg Laws) and a symbol of an attempt to justly judge those who perpetrated crime against mankind. Moreover, it includes themes pertaining to the domains of sociology and psychology, asking questions on the genesis of evil as well as societal conditions of its escalation. The talks are given by lecturers of the Scientific Department: Anna Czerner and Maria Bula.
We invite everybody to attend!
