This year’s stage of the field works carried out in the Site of National Remembrance in Łambinowice has come to an end. The archaeologists have already left the place, but the project is just entering the next phase – time of specialist analyses, conservation of findings and elaboration of the results.

Last Friday saw the end of the excavation works run by a team of researchers led by Dr Dawid Kobiałka. During the works, the archaeologists verified the hypotheses formulated on the basis of analyses of historical sources and teledetection data.

As we informed earlier, this year’s season had yielded very important effects. The conclusion of the field works does not mean the end of the project, though. We are now challenged with a successive, equally demanding, stage of anthropological and forensic-medical analyses, conservation of the found artefacts, archival search queries as well as elaboration of reports. Results of these works will allow interpreting the discoveries which were made in a fuller way and set directions of further research.

We are grateful to the team of archaeologists. We also express our thanks to the volunteers, co-workers and all of those who supported the project both physically on the spot and organizationally.

The works carried out in this year are a continuation of the interdisciplinary projects realized by our Museum since 2022. They were conducted within the framework of two projects:

• “A forest of the dead? Search for the graves of Prisoners of War in the Site of National Remembrance in Łambinowice”, realized by the Association of Friends of the Central Museum of Prisoners of War in cooperation with our Museum, and the project
• “In search of the graves of Poles in the Site of National Remembrance in Łambinowice”, conducted by the Central Museum of Prisoners of War.
