An Insurgent’s memento in the collection of the Museum
Each memento donated to our Museum is received with gratitude, since this is a truly societal act of co-creating the collection – an important element of the mission of preserving the culture and history. Yet the Insurgent’s armband which has been added to our collection recently makes us especially glad. It is a donation of the local community.
The armband mounted in a frame came to Łambinowice in 1979, together with some former Warsaw Insurgents of the Chrobry II Battalion. The occasion was the 35th anniversary of the arrival of the first transport of Warsaw Insurgents at Stalag 344 Lamsdorf. The precious memento was then most probably passed to the hands of the then parish priest of Łambinowice parish – the Rev. Józef Ledwig.
The current host of the parish – the Rev. Piotr Bałos, decided to give over the Insurgent’s armband to the Museum, which materialized also with engagement on the part of parishioners. It pleases us greatly and strengthens our conviction that we do not stand alone in our concern for the historical heritage of the Site of National Remembrance in Łambinowice and that we can count on the local community.
Thank you!
