About crosses and wayside shrines of Łambinowice Commune

This Wednesday, 13 October, as part of the Łambinowice Museum Meetings, will be held a presentation of the latest publication by Daniel Podobiński Od powietrza, głodu, ognia i wojny. O krzyżach i kapliczkach gminy Łambinowice [From plague, famine, fire and war. About crosses and wayside shrines of Łambinowice Commune].

The main guest of the meeting is a lover of local history and community activist, who has located, taken photos and made descriptions of over one hundred wayside shrines including the circumstances of their erections, and sometimes also their makers. Among the latter is F. Stencel from Mohrau (Morów nearby Nysa), the same person whose name is depicted on the Monument to the French POWs from 1871 at the Old Cemetery of Prisoners-of-War in Łambinowice.

At the meeting, which starts at 5 p.m. at our Łambinowice seat, it will be possible to receive a free copy of the book.

The event, to which you are invited by Dr. Iwona Konopnicka, President of the Association of Friends of the CMJW, and Dr. Violetta Rezler-Wasielewska, Director of the Central Museum of Prisoners-of-War, is part of the programme of the 18th edition of Days of German Culture in Opole Silesia.
