The volume contains articles by historians and researchers dealing with the problem area of German camps functioning in the years 1939–1945. The authors present varied though rather rarely assumed research perspectives, demonstrating both the system of functioning of the camps, and case studies revealing the everyday life behind the barbed wire. The publication broadens to a great extent the state of knowledge to date and interpretation relating to the thematic area.

The monograph includes also a contribution by Dr Piotr Stanek of the Research Department, devoted to the subject of medical service provided in POW camps. It presents the reality of organizing medical assistance in the conditions of extreme shortage of medical supplies and permanent danger as well as profiles of outstanding physicians, among others, Dr Jadwiga Beaupré, nom de guerre “Malina” [Raspberry] and Dr Zygmunt Kujawski, nom de guerre Brom, whose activity allowed not only saving patients’ lives and health, but also protecting the fundamental values.

The book can be purchased either at our stationary store or via the Internet (link to the store).
