A breakthrough decision concerning the principles of the joint running of the Museum by the Ministry and the Local Government
Compliant with the provisions contained in the Appendix to the Agreement on co-running and co-financing the Museum by the Local Government of Opole Voivodeship and the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage, signed on 29 October at the Opole seat of our Museum, from 1 January 2026 on the institution will be functioning according to new principles which determine the supervision and financial responsibility of both subjects which have agreed to jointly run it.
During the official signing of the Agreement, the Local Government of Opole Voivodeship – the leading organizer of our Museum until now – was represented by Szymon Ogłaza, Marshal of Opole Voivodeship and Zbigniew Kubalańca, Vice-Marshal, while the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage was represented by Maciej Wróbel, Secretary of State. Other participants of the ceremony were Tomasz Siemoniak, MP of Opole Voivodeship, Coordinator of Special Services at the Board of Ministers, Agnieszka Kamińska, Director of Department of Culture and National Heritage of the Regional Marshal’s Office of Opole Voivodeship as well as Dr Violetta Rezler-Wasielewska, Director of the Central Museum of Prisoners-of-War.
Upon visiting the Museum, in the first part of the meeting preceding the very act of signing of the Agreement itself, the floor as taken by: Szymon Ogłaza, Tomasz Siemoniak, Maciej Wróbel and Zbigniew Kubalańca. All of the speakers underlined the significance of the introduced changes for the future activity of the Museum, in particular regarding a rise in its prestige as well as strengthening the financial stability. The key record of the Appendix is the transfer of the leading role of organizer onto the Ministry, including the economic aspect. Soon, it is the Ministry that will provide 75% of the budget for the statutory activity and development of our Museum.
The official conferring upon our Museum the status of an institution entered in the register of the Minister of Culture and National Heritage raised a lot of interest on the part of local media, the representatives of which enquired, among others, how the ministerial means will be distributed and whether there are new investments planned accordingly.
