76th anniversary of the end of the Second World War

Today, at 10 a.m., during the International Victory Day, in front of the Monument to the Martyrdom of Prisoners-of-War in Łambinowice, Dr. Anna Wickiewicz (Head of the Department of Education and Exhibitions), and Jolanta Mierzyńska (Director of the Municipal Centre for Culture, Sports and Recreation in Łambinowice), on behalf of the Museum and the Community, lit a symbolic candle commemorating the events from 76 years ago.

Let us remind you that before the final surrender of Germany was concluded on the 8th of May 1945, the Wehrmacht prisoner-of-war camps were successively liberated by the Allied forces and the Red Army. In this year, on 17 March, as always, were held commemorations related with the liberation of Stalag 244 Lamsdorf. Due to sanitary restrictions, only a limited number of people could have attended it, therefore, the event was registered and then – after being enriched with ceremonial speeches by Wanda Traczyk-Stawska, prisoner of war of Stalag 344 Lamsdorf, the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Culture, National Heritage and Sport, Prof. Dr. Piotr Gliński, the Marshal of Opole Voivodship, Andrzej Buła, representatives of Polish and British circles of POW families: Jerzy Pietras and Richard Johnson, as well as Dr. Violetta Rezler-Wasielewska, Director of the Museum. The speeches were broadcast on the Museum's Facebook  profile and on YouTube channel.

We recommend once again to listen to intently into the words spoken by its participants.
