Scientific research
Scientific-research work has always played a significant role in the activity of the Museum since the very beginning of its foundation.
Still the scope of the focus was changing with years: until the end of the 1980s it had concerned the German Prisoner-of-War system during the Second
World War; after 1989 - the research area having undergone considerable broad-ening, at present it covers the problem area related to
Prisoners-of-War in the years of the Second World War, with a special focus on vicissitudes of the Polish soldiers in the German and Soviet
captivity, as well as in camps of internment in neutral states.
Moreover, it also deals with selected questions of the recent history of Poland,
including - primarily - issues connected with the existence of isolation camps in Opole Silesia after the War. The research conducted by
the Museum is not confined to the period of 1939-1945. It concerns also the causes and effects of the tragic events of the Second World War.
Another significant item within the scientific-research activity relates to the history of the camps at Lams-dorf/Łambinowice (1870-1946).
The scientific-research activity of the Museum is realized through archival and library-based research conducted at home and abroad. Results of the research are presented and discussed at all types of scientific meetings and in publications, and the genuine knowledge acquired in the course of scientific-research work provides the firm basis of the activity towards promoting education, organizing exhibitions, as well as that commemorating the Museum.
